Quality of life is an important aspect of care provision for those with chronic diseases such as diabetes and coronary heart disease, or those at high risk for these diseases as their treatment may require a range of lifestyle (particularly diet and exercise) and drug interventions. Patients may feel that these impact negatively on their quality of life, particularly if they are provided in a way which does not seek their active involvement in the decision making. Consideration of QOL is also vitally important for patients with diseases such as cancer, particularly those for whom a 'cure' is unlikely.
